one tap to Murakami's soundscape
I found out that the buttons on iOS look screen that were always for camera and torch can be customized. So I did it and for a while, I liked having ChatGPT and Obsidian there.
But recently I discovered there's an 'ambient music control' option! I was so wowed :) For a few weeks I just had the default chill option on, which was great too. I never needed to think a tiny bit to have nice piano music playing in the background.
Now I have found out that we could let this button play from our library! So now, upon just a tap on my locked iPhone, this button starts playing from 3500 songs that are in Haruki Murakami's vinyl collection. This is such a joy for me on multiple levels.

I've been besotted by Haruki's world for a few years now, slowly but steadily reading everything he has ever written. When you get immersed in his work, you realize the man's love for jazz, music and a tasteful life in general. For me, there's also a sense that maybe his writing got inspired, at least a tiny bit, from the sounds that surrounded him.
I had originally discovered this huge playlist on Spotify, it instantly felt like such a generous gift. But I don't use Spotify, so I thought, "How can I transfer it to Apple Music?" I initially thought, "Let me just vibe code a tool for this myself." I spent a few hours on cursor before realizing, "Onboarding on Apple's developer thingy takes like 24 hours+ to do and costs $99 a year," and I was like, "Nah."
So I asked Claude about existing tools to transfer playlists and found a lovely service that is free (actually donation based) and it worked like a charm!

I have a sense of melancholy for all of those vinyls and the physicality of it all, and on the other hand, I have this simple button on a touch screen. We are indeed living in beautiful times of mega abundance. Having this button on my lock screen is a reminder for me to stay lazy and just cultivate finer tastes in life. :)
